| Off The Page Writer-in-Schools Program
The Federation of BC Writers has over 650 members, many of whom are available and interested in sharing their talent and experience with students around the province. Every year, as part of our Off The Page Writer-in-Schools Program, the Federation arranges for and subsidizes author visits to the province's public schools to inform and inspire students and teachers about the world of writing and publishing.
Over 30 professional writers from all over the province were involved in 2007 and 34 writers will be participating in the 2008 program. OTP participants are paid a $200 fee for their in-school readings, presentations or workshops. This program is funded by the Direct Access program and the Federation of BC Writers.
If you are a member of the Fed and have recently published work in books, anthologies, magazines, periodicals, or websites, you may be eligible for our Off The Page School Program.
Here’s how it works: Fill out the web-form application at the Fed’s website. You will include a writing resume or list of recent publications, and a brief biography. If your application is accepted, you will organize a reading and discussion at a school of your choice, and you will be paid $200. It’s that easy and that good. You get paid and a class of BC students gets exposure to BC writing. You will also have your name, bio, and most recent book cover published at the Fed website. This will give you extra exposure and let teachers in your area know that you are available for additional bookings.
2009 applications will be accepted between October 15 - December 1, 2008
School-Funded Readings, Presentations & Workshops
Educators and librarians are encouraged to contact the Federation for consideration of school-funded presentations. We can assist in teaming your school or classroom with a local writer or provide you with the contact information for any one of the writers listed at the left.
