Submission Guidelines The Editorial Committee needs cohesive, focused, polished pieces for publication in WordWorks. Quality is the key. The journal belongs to and is representative of our membership and its content is designed to appeal to both established and emerging writers. If you wish to write a feature article, opinion piece, supplementary piece, advice column or report on a literary festival, let us know. We prefer that you NOT send completed work. We prefer a proposal package containing: - Idea for the article (one or two paragraphs is fine)
- Suggested length
- Why this would be of interest to our readers
- Tear sheets or printouts of other writing you have done of a similar type
- Full contact information, including email.
We do not return any material, so please do not send originals. If your article proposal fits our needs for an upcoming WordWorks, we will contact you about completing the piece, the length we need it to be and the due date. Note that we start putting each issue together 3-4 months before actual publication. Publication Schedule for 2008/2009 - Summer issue – July Deadline for materials: June 10
- Fall issue - September Deadline for materials: August 15
- Winter issue - December Deadline for materials: November 1
- Spring issue - March Deadline for materials: February 10
A feature generally runs 2,000-2,500 words. Supplementary pieces run 800-1,100 words. Occasionally, shorter or longer pieces are considered. Other articles and column ideas will be considered on an individual basis. We will consider reprints.Send queries to WordWorks Editorial Committee bcwriters@shaw.ca or mail proposal to: The Federation of BC Writers PO BOX 3887 Stn Terminal Vancouver, BC V6B 3Z3
